The Lumpp family originally come from Baden, Germany and emigrated to France in the late 1800’s. Two brothers François and Vincent began planting family land holdings with vines in the 1970s, that partnership lasted twenty years and now François and his wife own 9 hectares in Givry including five premier cru plots.
Drinking this wine at Fix Wine Bar on Elizabeth Street in Sydney was something of a luxury, definitely not the cheapest wine on the list but when the wine was opened it was something special. Powerful but delicate, loads of fruit and spice but not a punch in the face. The best of pinot but still accessible for a shiraz drinker to really enjoy. No question this is a lovely wine.
VINEYARD
Crausot is a relatively recent premier cru, established in the 1990’s, the vineyard sits at the southern tip of the appellation. Soils are very calcareous driving complexity and minerality. Being Burgundy space is at a premium, there are two small parcels that equate to about 0.93 hectares of vineyard. The first parcel faces south on stoney limestone soil. The second parcel of land faces east and is on sandy limestone soil. Vines are approximately 25 years old.
The village of Givry is in Cote Chalonnaise, Bourgone (Burgundy) wines from this region are more likely to be bolder with firmness on the palate, suited to dishes such as mixed charcuterie, braised veal, stewed poultry or roasted duck.
Outstanding – “An exuberantly spicy dark berry liqueur suffused nose is also quite floral. The sleek, intense and beautifully delineated medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere, punchy and well-balanced finale. This needs to add a bit of depth to merit the top end of my range but it has the potential”

“The 2020 Givry 1er Cru Crausot is another success, mingling aromas of cherries, blackberries, sweet soil tones and mint in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a saline finish, it combines immediate charm with aging potential”
