The Loisium group have taken the concept of wine travel to new levels with incredible modern architecture in their designer hotels (built in the winery), outstanding cuisine, stunning furnishings and design in some of the worlds most beautiful wine regions.
As you can imagine that has ticked a whole lot of our boxes (already in the early planning stages for a Almanak Tour to go and visit). The first two hotels are based in Austria each created around something quite special. The newest hotel is in Champagne France.
Loisium Weinwelt
Loisium Weinwelt is a modern cube designed by architect Steven Holl opened in 2003 and built in the winery it is home to 900 year old cellars in the Kampala Valley. This location is was the original site for Loisium and is a tasting room, vinotheque and shop just next to Hotel Langenlois.
This region is home to Grüner Veltliner and Riesling and there are some excellent local wines available on tasting.
LORISIUM Wine & Spa Hotel Langenlois
LOISIUM Hotel in Kamptal combines traditional wine history, modern lifestyle and elements of the surrounding nature in its unique design by Steven Holl. 112 rooms & suites, the Spa Club with a heated outdoor pool and a swimming pond, meeting & event areas.
LOISIUM Wine & Spa Hotel Südsteiermark
The hotel opened in 2012 in the middle of Austria’s Styrian wine region, The location on the Schlossberg in Ehrenhausen affords a wonderful view of the surrounding vineyards, the Eggenburg Mausoleum, and the Ehrenhausen Castle. This area is referred to as the ‘Styrian Tuscany’ with beautiful countryside, delicious wines and warm summers.
Viticulture and wine making in this region go back over a thousand years and here Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon, Riesling are the dominant grape varieties. The most widely planted Styrian variety is Welschriesling a fresh crisp white wine with flavours of green apples and cut grass it is delicious and refreshing.
The hotel features distinctive interior designs in muted whites deliberately contrasting the rich and lush surroundings outside. Rooms range from 28m² (for the Prestige Room) right up to 50m² for the Prestige Suites (which start at a very reasonable $237 EUR per night).
LOISIUM Wine & Spa Hotel Champagne
The newest hotel in the chain is in France in the bubble capital itself no less, with rooms that feature warm and natural colours with oak floors, smart linens and wool. There are three restaurants in the hotel and the LOISIUM Spa bar and to keep you properly hydrated there is an extensive range of Champagne bubbles.
With 101 rooms and suites and a smart pool to lounge beside after a long day of wine tasting, the big question is going to be which season is going to suit you best?

With three excellent hotels to chose from the first question is going to be am I in the mood for Bubbles or for Riesling? we are loving the focus on design, the location of the hotels set into vineyards and of course the locations, I guess we will have to plan a tour visiting each.
