Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, Aux Terrasses offers a delightful blend of gastronomic excellence and exceptionally comfortable accommodation.
A charming hotel and Michelin Star restaurant (review here) combination that provides an ideal base for exploring the picturesque town of Tournus and the surrounding wine country.
AMBIANCE >
The hotel Aux Terrasses features 14 well-appointed rooms, each designed with a perfect balance of modern comfort and rustic charm.
The decor is understated yet elegant, with neutral tones and tasteful furnishings that create a soothing atmosphere. Many rooms offer views of the hotel’s peaceful garden or the quaint streets of Tournus, some have large balconies.
Personally I loved that our room featured a double shower and double basin, alongside a huge bath tub. There was also a lovely small terrace off the bedroom with a lovely private space to sit outside in the warmer months.
EAT >
Of course the hero of staying at Aux Terrasses is the incredible food in the Michelin Star restaurant (see the separate review of the restaurant). But beyond that you have breakfast in the Salon each morning with large baskets of fresh home baked croissants, pain aux chocolate and bagette. There is a classic continental breakfast as well as a selection of eggs if that is what you need to get the day started right!
DRINK >
The salon offers a perfect place for an aperitif such as a beer, cocktail or a glass of champagne before making your way in for a delicious dinner. If you are lucky the jukebox will be on and you can spin a few tunes the play list is full of 80s classics!
WORKOUT >
`A hotel with a Michelin Star restaurant is not going to have a gym I hear you say, and you are right so take a walk around the beautiful village to see the Abbey or go for a run alongside the river (which was almost bursting its banks when we were there).
CONCLUSION >
The town of Tournus is charming and it has two Michelin Star restaurants and fantastic accomodation at Aux Terrases. Northern Burgundy is about 30-40 minutes drive and Southern Burgundy 10-20 minutes drive.
The hotel is incredibly comfortable, rooms are generous in size. Ours featured a large bath and double shower, it also had large outside terrace which would be fantastic in Summer or warmer months but was a little damp for our stay.
In the warmer months the outdoor garden terrace is the perfect place for al fresco dining or enjoying a morning coffee.
Jean-Michel Carrette his wife Amandine and the entire staff are incredibly welcoming and generous from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

It is a great location (3.5/5) easy to get around and close to everything without being in the centre of the hustle and bustle. Good sized rooms (for Paris) with espresso machines, ours even had a nice balcony (4/5), A nice hotel restaurant with a generous breakfast (4/5), It is a smart hotel, a good gym and pool, its got plenty of style and atmosphere with out being pretentious (3.5/5) together all that makes it 15/20.
