The Klima is a wireless smart controller that transforms your existing air conditioner or heat pump into a smart home device through mobile phone control, that means you can replace the remote to your split system air conditioner (you train the device to emulate the signal, so you no longer need the remote) with something that not only looks beautiful but is also turning your home into a smart home.
Now before we go to far this is not the first product in this market, many people would be quite familiar with Sensibo who have made a number of smart controllers and been in the market for a number of years and of course the original Nest Thermostat (now owned by Google) which requires you to hardwire in the connection to your existing thermostat.
The Klima is just like the Nest Thermostat and the Sensibo in that there is a dedicated mobile phone application with some sophisticated controls for automated climate management, there is geo sensing ability for you to reduce energy consumption when you are not at home as well as a range of scheduling functions for setting specific temperatures and times.
One of the biggest differences that the Klima seems to have over its competitor products is that it is designed more as a system where the network of devices across the home, or across multiple homes can be managed together and remotely. The app will let you manage the schedule and to turn the heating or cooling on or off from wherever you are, with a range of smart alerts to keep you aware of any unexpected issues such as open windows causing increased energy use.
Ultimately what Klima does is it provides the functionality and beauty of an on the wall controller (with a smart design) that you have been wanting. The Nest device is not available in all markets and requires more wiring to a physical thermostat and the Sensibo doesn’t have any physical control (and its unfortunately ugly).
The Klima is $265 AUD and is currently available for pre-order at BOLDR
