We don’t usually write about bakeries or cafe’s but it is time to change that because SHIBUichi has to be the best bakery we have visited in Japan and once discovered we have been back again and again.
If you are looking for quality baked goods early in the morning (any time before 11am) you are going to be wandering aimlessly from one Starbucks to a Tully and I guarantee that you will be disappointed with what is on offer. UNLESS of course you know the way to SHIBUichi.
It is hidden away up a laneway off the end of Cat Street, near where Cat Street meets Meji Dori (actually if you see the sign saying this is the end of Cat Street you are very close).
Inside you are going to find a delicious range from quality breads and bagels (we had some that were cranberry and dark chocolate – just sublime), croissants that are flakey and perfect, tarts and a large range of savoury and sweet delicacies.
There are lots of original flavours but the stand out is the quality of the bread, each of the baked items I tried (and lets face it I tried more than a few) had brilliant flavour but also a perfect texture, be it crunch, squish, chew or bite.
with flavours like earl grey and blood orange scones, fig & cream cheese bagel, curry bread, honey and lemon cream danish, old fashioned crunch chocolate doughnut and triple cheese french bread, I know you are going to find something new to try.
So if you are looking for a great bakery in Tokyo make your way towards Cat St.
