STAY > Paramount House Hotel, Sydney

The Paramount House Hotel is a boutique hotel that resides in the old offices of Paramount Pictures. Today it is a very funky space with rooms that are cleverly designed to feel like the very best of your home. That is if you have french linen sheets, polished wooden floors, insanely comfortable beds, handwoven rugs and merino throws (of course you do!).

There are twenty nine rooms in the hotel which was restored by architects Fox Johnston, the rebuild retained the art deco facade but it took nearly nine years to rebuild the interior. The hotel shares the space with the other tenants in the building the Paramount Coffee Project, restaurant bistro Poly (executive chef Mat Lindsay), AP Bakery, Golden Age Cinema (arthouse at its best) and The Office Space a shared workspace.

Which makes the whole place feel busy and and exciting all of the time.

SLEEP >

There are four different categories of room; ‘The Everyday’ has a terrazzo bathroom and starts at $380 per night. ‘The Sunny’ is similar but a little larger and has an alcove with plants – think balcony ($420 pn). ‘The Loft’ rooms have a sofa or lounge and a timber bath made from local blackbutt timber, the bedroom sits up a staircase on the mezzanine above ($495 pn). The Nook is the smallest and cosiest of the rooms ($330 pn) and ‘The Mack Daddy’ suite has four light-filled spaces: a bedroom, lounge, bathroom, and private balcony with plants and seating.

This is one of those hotels where the bathroom is quite open in the bedroom so keep that in mind if you prefer more privacy in the bathroom.

The amenities are Aesop and the mini bar is full of delicious drinks and treats.

EAT >

There are so many choices to eat well in Paramount House, not least is breakfast (and lunch) at the delicious Paramount Coffee Project (see seperate article). For more substantial meals try Poly also in the building for a smart European bistro with some really excellent choices and a smart wine list.

The Sydney outlet for Chin Chin is just across the road for delicious South East Asian flavours and the original Nomad (the place that made it famous) around the corner for distinctly Australian flavours.

WORK OUT >

The Paramount building also houses the Paramount Recreation Club which is on the rooftop and run numerous stretching, yoga and exercise classes. However if that is not your thing, try one of Sydney’s pools, (there are three within a short walk) such as the Andrew Boy Charlton pool which over looks the harbour.

DRINK >

Where to drink when you are staying at the Paramount House, well there are quite a few choices for excellent libations from Tios Cerveceria for great tequila, to Soultrap and The Rover all within a few steps but there is all of Oxford Street and all of Surry Hills just beside you so we are sure you are going to find lots of places to play up.
