The Nozawa Onsen Distillery is in the beautiful historic onsen town and snow resort of the same name in Kita Shinshu, Nagano Prefecture Japan. Nozawa is a small farming village with a population of 3,500 that swells in winter when it attracts skiers from all over the world. The rest of the year visitors come for the the hot springs (onsen), village hospitality, fresh mountain air, mountain biking, and hiking. Famed for the annual fire festival Nozawa, incredible powder snow and warm traditional village hospitality, Nozawa has become one of the most popular resorts on Honshu (the main island of Japan).
The Nozawa Onsen Distillery is located in the heart of the village, in a renovated canning factory, which was historically used by villagers for the preserving of both farmed and wild mountain vegetables.
They have launched three blends of gin and are currently working on a first batch of whiskey that will mature in oak barrels high in the mountain.
