WINE > Rob Hall – Harriet’s Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Rob Hall has had considerable experience in making Yarra Valley chardonnay and pinot noir, he was head wine maker at Mount Mary for 10 vintages

Harriet’s Vineyard was planted in 1996, to 8 acres of vineyard (4 each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). It sits at the foot of Mt Toolebewong and is around 180m above sea level.

Rob Hall has had considerable experience in making Yarra Valley chardonnay and pinot noir, he was head wine maker at Mount Mary for 10 vintages, then moving on to Kellybrook (he also worked at Punt Road and Yarra Ridge). In 2015 Rob acquired the 3 hectare vineyard on the property he grew up on, the those original Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines planted in 1996 were now producing quality fruit.

Rob’s mother was heavily involved in planting the original vineyard and thus the single vineyard release has been named after her ‘Harriet’s Vineyard’.

The wine is a serious Pinot Noir it is smooth and expansive on the palate, dark cherry with cedar, thyme and perhaps plum. As you drink this wine you appreciate the silky tannins and delicate oak balance that lingers on the back palate.

Its worth noting that JAMES HALLIDAY gave the 2016 release 96 points which is significant praise and shows you the quality of this wine, and 2021 is broadly recognised as being an excellent year for Yarra Valley.

It is clear that Rob Hall’s wine making pedigree has achieved something special, at $37 this wine is an absolute steal, it is exceptional quality Pinot Noir and right now it is already drinking equally as well as wines more than double the price from the same region.
