RIDE > Its No Angell

Smart bikes are on the rise as the e-bike revolution transforms the way people get around.   From the army of people delivering food to smart mountain bikes designed to make it easier on the uphill, there is now something for everyone.

The Angell Bike is brain child of Jules Trecco and Marc Simoncini who together founded a French online dating service (Meetic).   The eye-catching frame is the result of working with French ‘wunderkind’ industrial designer Ora Ïto.    But this e-bike is more more than just a beautiful ride.  From its integrated lights to the inbuilt geolocation and locking system (with motion detector), this bike is very smart.  The battery is easy to remove and so you can leave your bike downstairs and charge where ever you are.  Speaking of power, the Angell takes just 2 hours to be fully charged and has a 70km range and with a top speed of ~25kph – this bike will cover your daily commute and then some.

Smart – The bike has a touchscreen built into the handlebars and it provides you with all the information you need, speed, pollution index, battery level, GPS navigation, a fall warning, a theft alarm and it will even show you the calories you are burning.  When the cockpit screen is not enough it pairs with your smartphone for more functionality.  There are indicators so others know when you are turning and the tyres are reflective so it is easier to see you at night.

Mechanically – The bike 28″ alloy rims, Michellin Protek tyres, Tektro HDR 310 disk brakes and a 250W motor in the rear hub.

This bike is loaded with technology and the reviews are very good, that said the strengths of this bike are its exceptionally good styling and the integrated technology providing all types of functionality.   The drawbacks are the motor being in the hub rather than the drivetrain and it only being a 250W motor.

“We want to be to the electric bike market what iPhone has become to the mobile phone market,” Simoncini boldly announced at the official launch. As he puts it, the e-bike is “70 percent software,” so it comes with an integrated, color, touchscreen LCD display and a cockpit, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Since the e-bike is available in one size only. Jules Trecco, CEO of Angell Bike, guarantees that the design will comfortably accommodate riders between 1m 55cm and 1m 95cm.

The Angell Bike is not available in Australia at the yet….
