EAT > Sushi Masumoto, Kyoto

In the beautiful back streets of Gion where the traditional ‘Matcha’ tea houses hide away there are some amazing restaurants hidden behind the sliding doors and ‘Noren’ doorway curtains.

One of these outstanding restaurants is Sushi Masumoto which is a set Omakase course sushi restaurant preparing perfect individual morsels for 12 diners (eight at the bar and two tables of two).

The menu changes daily with a selection of what is seasonal, fresh and tasty at the morning markets, our courses were sea bream, crab, squid, prawn, eel, egg, sea urchin, fatty tuna, chopped tuna and each was delicious.

We drank wine and sake, there was not a wine list but the wine by the glass was an excellent white burgundy (chardonnay) I did not get to see the label. All up this is a lovely place to stop for lunch.
