EAT > Mitsuyama, Osaka

A wander around the neighbourhood and looking into a doorway we discovered Mitsuyama, but they were booked out for dinner so we decided to commit and book for the following evening, a decision that turned out to be outstanding.

It is a small restaurant, our party of five were the only diners this night but I got the feeling that was by design as people arrived at the door to be turned away. You need to reserve a table in the evening and our host who served food, was sommelier and chef (he did have an offsider who helped but this is almost a one man show).

First dish was a salad of fresh raw bluefin tuna and seasonal baby squid, together with delicious artichokes, tomatoes, dill, sugar snap peas and brocolli.

The second dish was a cream soup of broad beans with white asparagus, pomelo and clams and it was just exceptional. Served with fresh sour dough bread warm straight out of the oven this was amazing.

A pasta dish of squid ink linguine served with mushrooms, bamboo shoots and a tomato sauce.

The main course was a beef dish as you would expect it was perfectly presented with a charred brussel sprout and small potato and an amazing mustard from Tasmania.

Finally we had a desert of strawberries and panacotta, the strawberries were sweet and the panacotta was fresh vanilla.

The wine list has some excellent Italian wines, we had a Chianti Classico Riserva. All of this for ¥5800 per person (plus ¥500 for desert) amazing food the chef is a genius.

This is all probably best reflected as I spent time eating and not taking any pictures of the food – an excellent meal all round.
