In the heart of Burgundy’s fabled wine country, Le Globe stands on Meursault’s main street—a boutique bolthole where the joys of French hospitality, jewel-like plates and insider wine knowledge blend together in a style that is distinctly local yet wholly contemporary. There’s an easy confidence in the air here: a feeling that comes from a restaurant so closely in tune with its region’s pulse and produce that every meal, from bread to bottle, feels both rooted in tradition and newly imagined for today’s traveler.
AMBIANCE >
We were a little disorganised and had failed to book a lunch venue after a delightful morning tasting wine. After a wander up and down the Meursault and finding all of the charming and more rustic venues full, we became worried that we might not find a place for lunch. Le Globe looks posh and perhaps that helped us as they had a table and as it turned out an excellent meal.
Step inside and you’ll find crisp lines, plenty of sunlight and a mix of rustic charm with fresh, modern touches: think tiled floors, vintage mirrors, and an inviting blend of polished oak and blonde stone. The room is as lively at lunch as it is intimate by evening, with the terrace drawing a swirl of locals and visitors alike. The service is warm and attentive—English is spoken with ease—and staff are always ready to walk diners through the day’s market menu or recommend a bottle from their much-admired Burgundy list.
FOOD >
Le Globe’s kitchen pivots around ingredients at their peak, with menus that shift to capture the season’s best. A discovery menu (€65) brings a parade of vibrant, technically-sure dishes: melon soup with raw ham for a summer opener, exquisitely cooked sea bass, and perfectly tender veal with just-charred aubergine. The cheese board is a showcase of local treasures, drawing from nearby farmhouses. Attention to dietary needs is thoughtful—those with gluten intolerance, for example, are offered quality options without fuss. Each plate demonstrates a culinary respect for colour and balance, while the wine pairings elevate Burgundian bottles from great to transcendent.
VALUE >
At €65 for a full “menu découverte”, Le Globe is among the best dining experiences in Meursault for this tier of refined-but-not-stuffy hospitality. Set lunches (about €28) hit the mark for those passing through on a winery-hopping excursion. While a few diners have experienced delays on a busy day or service that falls short of the room’s ambitions, most report a polished, friendly team for whom hospitality is second nature.
STAY >
Not just a restaurant, the hotel Le Globe is the kind of boutique address made for wine-soaked retreats and village wandering, set within a tastefully restored old building just a cork-pop away from Meursault’s storied cellars. Inside, bold, dark walls offset by soft lighting and plush, comfortable beds create an inviting, quietly luxurious mood. Bedrooms range from compact doubles to airy superieures; each is immaculately clean, air-conditioned, and thoughtfully soundproofed for deep Burgundy sleep. The lounge is intimate and perfect for an aperitif, while breakfast in the sunny restaurant draws rave reviews for the buttery croissants and freshly-squeezed orange juice. Staff—led by celebrated hosts like Céline—are genuinely welcoming and quick to organize local experiences, from cycling through the vines to a curated wine dinner next door. A minor quibble: storage space is at a premium, so travel light if planning a longer sojourn. Still, for those seeking a romantic or restful base with contemporary finesse, Le Globe delivers, balancing village charm with professional hospitality and an unbeatable address near Meursault’s heart.
WINES TO VISIT >
Meursault sits at the gold-dusted heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, a village defined by its creamy, mineral-laced whites and an unbroken lineage of winemaking. Few wine towns offer the same concentration of iconic producers and legendary terroirs. Among the essential stops:
- Château de Meursault: A grand, thousand-year-old estate famed for exceptional tastings in historic cellars, pouring both refined whites (like Meursault Clos des Grands Charrons) and structured reds. Tours include a flight of 9 wines, with several top premiers crus.
- Domaine Roulot: Revered among collectors, Roulot’s Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir is widely ranked as a reference point for the village, displaying rare minerality and persistence. Appointments are a must, as tastings are among Burgundy’s most sought-after.
- Domaine Jean Monnier et Fils: A family-run standard-bearer, welcoming guests for intimate, insight-packed tastings across a broad range of Meursault climats.
- Moillard: While the house is famed for its Nuits-St-Georges reds just outside Meursault, its elegant new tasting room is a local discovery for both red and white Burgundy fans.
– Other notable terroirs: Seek top names crafting single-climate Meursaults (Les Tesson, Le Rougeot, Les Chevalières, Les Grands-Charrons, Les Petits-Charrons) such as Jean-Philippe Fichet, Pierre Morey, and Michel Bouzereau—these bottles often rival premier cru quality when the vintage shines.
For any wine lover in Meursault, exploring these storied caves is as essential as the first glass of Chardonnay savoured on a summer terrace. The village itself is a living map of Burgundy’s most hallowed soils, best explored unrushed, glass in hand.
VERDICT >
What started as us looking for a quick bite between wine tastings, evolved into a long delicious lunch. Le Globe was success.
Le Globe is at once a window on Meursault’s deep-rooted culinary culture and a canvas for modern Burgundian plates. Pair a dinner here with a day exploring Côte d’Or vineyards, and the meal will live long in the memory—think sophisticated cooking, immersive service and the relaxed luxury found only in Burgundy’s great villages.
