The brand CMF might not be one you recognise and that is because it is brand new, launching recently with three products ear buds, watch and a wall charger. CMF stands for Colour, Material and Finish and the company’s ethos is ‘wonderful by design’. A challenge to make thoughtful devices that are both beautiful and functional.
The brand is a sub brand of the slightly better known ‘Nothing’ mobile phone company, who have built a beautifully paired back device that has all the features you want in a slick design and a reasonable price.
DESIGN
The Watch Pro has an very slick minimalist interface but that doesn’t mean that it lacks functionality, far from it. As you will see below there is a lot of functionality that will support most smart watch use cases. The design aesthetics are love child of Swedish wunderkind Teenage Engineering with a healthy dose of Jony Ive’s Apple with maybe a sprinkling of a 1980s Braun travel clock.
TECHNICAL
The screen which is made of scratch resistant glass is huge 1.96″ (5cm) with an always on AMOLED display that goes up to 600 NITS, which is about the same size as the Ultra Apple Watch and its super bright.
The watch chassis is made of aluminium and there is a built int GPS. There is also a heart rate monitor and blood oxygen saturation monitor.
Now here is the party trick that is going to excite anyone who is sick of their smartwatch only lasting a day without needing a recharge. The Watch Pro claims that the 340MAH battery will last for up to 13 days of usage, that is significant.
Water resistance is IP68 which is more water resistant than water proof, the IP68 rating indicates that in fresh water it should be fine to a depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. By way of explanation IP68 the first number after IP ‘6’ stands for being dust tight, the second number ‘8’ is the protection against being immersed in water, this is the same as most current smartphones. By contrast the Apple Watch Ultra (which to be fair is so much more expensive) has a water resistance ISO standard rating of 100 metres.
FUNCTIONALITY
There are full collection of fitness and bio health monitoring capabilities including sleep tracking, heart rate, stress, exercise monitoring (110 different sports…), daily steps, calories, and more. All of these come with some very interesting rendering of your vital statistics.
The watch also provides bluetooth connectivity for making calls (on your phone) with a microphone and speaker that features AI noise reduction.
There are other very useful functions including find my watch (and find my phone), weather forecast, alarm, stopwatch, flashlight and control the music on phone.
The Watch Pro has an application which runs on Android or iOS and is available in both app stores, with this you can change between dozens of customised watch dials, some dynamic and some static.
The custom silicon bands are available in three colours orange, black and grey.
The Watch Pro has launched at $69 USD at that price I think they are going to sell a lot of them.
