CAFE > Wall Two 80, Balaclava

Known to most as simply ‘The Wall’ the cafe opened in 1998 as a simple hole in the wall. A place where people largely consumed a latte or flat white sitting on the pavement and eating turkish toast with the always delicious ‘jam lady jams’ and fought over the newspapers.

Fast forward twenty six years and the The Wall is still going strong and has very loyal regulars who come back for excellent coffee, sharing a seat at the communal table. There is a more extensive menu these days and the cafe has expanded to take over the shop on the corner so there is more space for diners, a larger kitchen for food prep.

The menu features classic like a avocado on toast, but there is a twist as it is served on a dark rye with pickled red onion, goats cheese and pumpkin seeds. Crispy bacon is served on sour dough toast with roasted cherry tomatoes, avocado, sriracha and a sunny side up fried egg ($16). Sardines are served with fresh truss tomatoes, basil and garlic oil on sourdough toast ($15.70).

There are pressed sandwiches like the Tuna Melt with tomatoes and emmental cheese which is served with crisps ($15.20) and there is also a Pastrami Reuben which comes on sourdough with pickle, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and mustard with a serve of russian dressing (also served with crisps). Yep very tasty classics, it is a go to favourite.
