With less than 24 hours in Paris, we needed to stay somewhere central that didn’t cost a bomb. Welcome Hotel was perfect.
AMBIENCE >
Welcome Hotel is old and modern at the same time. The building dates to the late 19th century, and maintains this charm even as its 30 rooms have been updated for modern conveniences and comfort.
The lounge area was welcoming, with newspapers and magazines. A breakfast area is adjacent. We arrived mid-morning from Lyon, with the staff happy to mind our bags until our room was ready.
Located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, there are cafes, restaurants and shopping close by. Jardin du Luxembourg and the Louvre are each a 10 minute walk away, and Notre Dame Cathedral is 15 minutes away.
ROOM >
The 30 rooms are classified as classic, superior and deluxe. Our deluxe room, named La Dauphine, was on the top floor under the sloped roof. My husband insisted I sleep on that side of the bed as there would be less chance I’d bump my head during the night. The room was a good size, with a large bathroom, desk, television, fridge, wardrobe and air conditioning. There was a view over Paris, but the slope of the windows made this awkward.
EAT >
While we did not indulge, the buffet breakfast includes hot and cold drinks, breads and pastries, fruit and yoghurt, eggs, cheese and charcuteries. The price is €15 per person, €8 for children under 12.
ONE MORE THING >
The lift! When we checked in, we were told the lift was small. Two people at a time, or one person plus one suitcase. They were not lying.
