It seems everywhere we turn people are only talking about all mountain skis but most of the us ski on piste most of the time, so what is happening with skis that are designed to make you ski your very best on the terrain you spend most of your time.
One ski that is getting lots of recognition for its ability to getting you to make your very best turns is the new Speed 763 ski from Dynastar. Adapted from their high performance professional GS racing ski this ski is more forgiving and a lot more fun to ski for intermediate to advanced skiers.
Construction uses a poplar (wood) core that is bi directional this provides greater resistance to compression and dynamic reaction as the ski flexes. There is a V shape metal that together with the timber/polyurethane construction provides excellent power and remains very light. The ski has only a moderate rocker in the tips to ensure that once you are on the edge the ski carves with its whole edge contact. But there is no tail rocker, this ski is made for carving it up down the groomers.
Available in four lengths (158, 166, 174 and 182) they are 75mm underfoot with the 158’s having a 12 meter turning radius and the 182’s a 16 meter radius.
“It’s a slalom race ski for the masses,” said tester Chad Jacob, a race coach from New York. And there’s no speed suit required for you to feel like a U.S. Ski Team athlete; just pick up a pair of these skis.
