Falls Creek has always been a personal favourite ski destination and a tradition has built up in recent years, we always have a Saturday dinner at Summit Ridge.
Summit Ridge in Falls Creek is an alpine classic—a restaurant and lodge perched above the snowbound slopes, quietly (and reliably) keeping the torch lit for mountain fine dining with ambition and charm.
There’s a particular hush that falls over Falls Creek at twilight, as the last skiers crunch across Schuss Street and the air sharpens. Step inside Summit Ridge and the weight of the mountain world softens—timber beams, crackling fires, and polished stone set the scene. Windows frame snowy gums; the room glows with lamplight and the gentle hum of satisfied diners.
FOOD >
Chef plates up alpine comfort laced with sophistication. You might start with goat’s cheese soufflé, airy as fresh powder, or house-cured trout paired with horseradish snow and pickled cucumber, hinting at Scandinavian winters.
Mains lean hearty: Eye fillet is offered with a cauliflower cream, confit chats and a red wine jus. The duck pappardelle, is a braised duck leg shredded and served with house made pappardelle, silver beet, cashews. Pan fried barramundi, served with eggplant caponata and a herb oil. Its comfort food that is perfectly executed for the hunger generated following a day on the slopes.
Every dish is built for mountain appetites, but refined enough for a city palate. Sides feature heirloom veg and potato gratin, whispering of French technique beneath their golden crusts.
A five or eight course degustation (with the option of wine pairing) is the way to go.
Our five courses started with perfect kingfish cerviche (served with orange, pistachio and dill fronds), beef carpaccio, celeriac remoulade with capers, parmesan and truffle
followed by gnocchi with mixed mushrooms, hazelnuts and truffle. Lamb rump with smashed mint peas and pressed potato. For desert a delicious vanilla pannacotta (not sweet), strawberry rhubarb compote (slightly acidic), cinnamon crumble (the final sweet crunch) really delicious.
DRINK >
The wine list is extensive with over 200 bottles and 28 different wines available by the glass. The wine matching service is offered in a standard and premium with some very special bottles available including Rockford Basket Press and Henschke Hill of Grace.
AMBIANCE >
The dining room pulses with quiet celebration. Staff move through the space with ease—knowledgeable but never obtrusive, ready to talk through the wine list (mostly local, admirably broad) or offer a fireside digestif. After dinner, linger for a single malt or slip upstairs to rooms carved from stone and timber—if you’re lucky, you’ll wake to a sunrise brushing across the high plains.
Summit Ridge brings together the best of alpine tradition and cosmopolitan polish—a place where skiers, romantics, and food lovers find common ground above the snowline.
